Brandt Miller
Facilitator of immersive, relationship-based journeys through Mongolia.
Brandt Miller is the founder of Steppe & Soul and a facilitator of group and transformational work, with a background in Somatic Experiencing®.
His work centers on creating environments that support connection between people, place, and the deeper patterns that shape how we live.
A Long Relationship with Mongolia
Brandt first arrived in Mongolia in 2006 through a study abroad program, drawn by an interest in Tibetan Buddhism, remote landscapes, and the cultures of the Siberian region.
What began as curiosity quickly developed into a lasting connection, one that continued to deepen through years of returning, living, and working in Mongolia.
This path included a Fulbright scholarship and documentary work across the region, including projects in collaboration with National Geographic as well as the development of long-standing relationships with local families, guides, and teachers.
Over time, Mongolia became less a destination and more a place of ongoing relationship, one that continues to shape both the direction and substance of his work.
Facilitation & Approach
Drawing on a background in somatic and trauma-informed facilitation, Brandt’s work focuses on creating held environments in which individuals and groups can engage more directly with their internal experience.
His approach weaves together embodied practice, group process, and guided reflection integrated within the context of landscape and cultural immersion.
Rather than applying a fixed methodology, the work is responsive and relational, shaped by the people, the place, and what emerges within the group.
Learning Through Place
Mongolia is not simply a setting for this work, but a place of ongoing relationship.
Through nearly two decades of returning, Brandt has developed close connections with local communities, many of whom now serve as collaborators within Steppe & Soul journeys.
These include nomadic host families, experienced horse guides, Buddhist teachers and lamas, artists, and cultural figures, including Mongolia’s Poet Laureate, individuals whose knowledge and lived experience shape the journeys in meaningful ways.
Working as a Guest
Brandt approaches this work with the understanding that he is always a guest in Mongolia.
This perspective informs how the journeys are designed and facilitated—prioritizing respect, reciprocity, and a willingness to learn.
Rather than positioning himself as an authority on place, the work is grounded in listening, relationship, and collaboration.
Participants are guided to move through the land with a similar orientation, engaging with people and place in a way that is attentive, grounded, and participatory.
Bringing the Work Together
Steppe & Soul is a culmination of this path, bringing together facilitation work, long-standing relationships in Mongolia, and a commitment to creating meaningful, shared experiences.
The journeys are designed not as tours but as immersive environments where participants can reconnect with themselves, others, and the natural world.
Over time, this work has evolved into a unique intersection of retreat, pilgrimage, and cultural exchange held within a small-group format that allows for depth and continuity.
